Dr Kate Muise is a passionate people leader and advocate for research, science, and innovation partnerships across Aotearoa and internationally. She brings deep knowledge of the science system and expertise in strategy development, science diplomacy, large-scale project management, and the machinery of government.

Alongside her work with K9 Medical Detection, Kate is the Chief Executive of Science New Zealand - the collaboration entity for Aotearoa's public research organisations. Her role is to build cross-sector initiatives that drive innovation, enhance productivity, support sustainability, and improve the wellbeing of all New Zealanders. Kate is passionate about strengthening the connectivity and impact of the Aotearoa New Zealand science system, working at the nexus of research, public policy, and international partnerships.

Kate holds a PhD in Ecology and Biodiversity from Te Herenga Waka Victoria University of Wellington, in partnership with Plant & Food Research Ltd (now part of the Bioeconomy Science Institute).

Beyond her work in research and innovation, Kate has a strong interest in supporting the arts. She is a Director of BATS Theatre and the Managing Director of Muise Gallery, an art gallery showcasing emerging and establishing local artists. She also brings her love of movement to the community as a dance instructor at Body Electric Dance Studios.
